The not so boozy truth...

So, I've had to take a hiatus from my normal boozy truth.  My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last few years.  Last month we did our first IUI (intrauterine insemination) cycle, also know as AI (artificial insemination).  Let me tell you, there are a lot of abbreviations to learn!  Our first cycle was unsuccessful.  I developed 3 follicles, which turn into eggs; however, they all failed to rupture, meaning that I did not ovulate.  That was a kick in the teeth.  We're now on our second cycle.

It's not easy.  There's so much that goes on in your own head.  I'm on day # 3 right now, as we did the IUI on Tuesday.  That's WAAAAYYYY too early to be feeling any symptoms of pregnancy.  Does that stop me from obsessing over every little sensation and twinge?  Um, no.  No, it does not.  At all.  Even more helpful is the fact that I've been put on progesterone suppositories to aid my lining (anyone ever been on them - super fun) and implantation.  They have the lovely side effect of mimicking pregnancy symptoms.  I can't test for pregnancy for two weeks after the IUI.  If I test early, there could still be HCG in my system from the trigger shot that made me ovulate, so it could be a false positive.  If I test early, it could also be too soon for a pregnancy test to detect pregnancy, so it could be a false negative.  Either, way I can't trust it, so I need to step away from the HPT's (home pregnancy tests).

Again, not easy.  Especially when everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, around me seems to be getting pregnant.  So, bear with me for the next few weeks.  I may get a little crazy.  To add insult to injury, I can't even have my glass of wine.

How "super" is a green superfood?

I had to go to a local health food store today to pick up some supplements.  While I was there, I (obviously) had to browse the entire store.  Suddenly, something caught my eye.  Green Super Food.  It's a powder that you mix with water or juice, etc.  My husband and I recently watched a documentary about nutrition in America (thank you Netflix).  One of the people being interviewed was talking about the amazing properties of "green super food."  This includes things like Spirulina, Chlorella, Wheat Grass and Barley Grass.  Well, lo and behold, this product had them all!  Overtaken by the sudden belief that my health would be in ruins without it, I had to buy it!

I returned to my office and bravely mixed myself a cup with water.  It had aromas of grass with some earthy undertones.  (Do you like how I can make this sound like a glass of wine?)  The first sip was a little off-putting as it's a pretty unique flavor.  It smells like grass and earth for a reason.  As I continued to drink it, however, it really wasn't bad.  You just have to get used to it.  The texture is a little grainy, but it's supposed to have lots of natural fiber in it, so I suppose that's to be expected.  Now we'll see if it can live up to all of it's hype.  I'll drink one scoop a day for 30 days and then post to let you know if I feel like I'm a whole new woman, with my very own personal fountain of youth!

I also picked up some fish oil while I was at the store, but that's a story for another time.  It's so easy to get caught up in the various supplements, herbs and powders.  Do you use supplements, and how do they work for you?

Wacky Wednesday

I absolutely love fall, but I hate that some of my favorite fruits are going to be out of season.  I figured that I had better take advantage while I can.  Breakfast this morning was oatmeal and a plumcot.  It's rainy outside, so a warm breakfast sounded good!

I love this oatmeal - it has a very hearty and rich flavor, plus it's easy to make.

The plumcot is a cross between a plum and an apricot.  It tastes a lot like a regular plum, but without the super tart taste.

I diced up the plumcot and mixed it in with my oatmeal.

Filling, warm and yummy!  I will miss the plumcots when they're gone.  Guess I'll just have to console myself with all of the new pumpkin flavors that are coming out!

So, who am I and why am I blogging?

Good question, I'm so glad you asked!

Who am I?  I'll start with the basics.  I'm married.  My husband is seriously the best husband ever.  We don't have any kids yet, but we're hoping that will change soon!  I'm a big sister, and my little sis is my best friend.  I'm very close with my parents as well.  They are currently dating (each other) after 13 years of divorce preceded by 20 years of marriage.  I used to be a personal trainer, but now work as a manager at a law firm.  I love dogs.  I love to read.  Scary movies are my all time favorites.  Anyone who knows me can attest to my love of wine.  I like to eat healthy and work out, but it can really be a struggle to make myself do it.  Because I love food, and of course, wine.  Which leads to the why I'm blogging portion of the question.

I'd like to share my journey.  I think that the accountability of sharing my experiences will help me.  Also, I think that it will be cathartic to reflect on my life, my decisions, and my struggles in black and white.  I have recently discovered the world of blogging and I'm ready to join in, instead of just lurking around the edges.  I plan to write about my life or whatever thoughts I may be having.  I'm going to make a big effort to be as honest as possible with myself and with you on this blog.

So welcome to my blog, and the bubble that is my life.  Please, grab a glass of wine, and come along for the ride.
